Friday On My Mind…

July 17, 2008

Less than 24 hours from now, I’m going to be rocking my socks off at the Glenhead Tavern in Duntocher (in my view the spiritual home of Peter Goes To Partick), with Gooshy’s band ‘Touch ‘N’ Go’.  I’ve seen Goosh once in 17 years (to get some stuff off him for the website), and am thoroughly looking forward to seeing and hearing TnG tomorrow night.

Even though we’ve been in touch for the last few months, flooding, surgery and other mad circumstances have thwarted any chance to get out and see the band, so to be able to catch them at ‘O’Donnells’ is kinda special.  It’s made all the more ‘right’ by being accompanied by my old partner-in-crime, Linda, for the first time in that same 17 year period.  (It’s scary that this much time has passed, but I guess we’re all getting on a bit now!)

See ya there?

Peter Goes To Partick (Part 2)

March 14, 2008

Thanks to these few blog entries, I’ve managed to make contact with quite a few people involved with Peter Goes To Partick.  As a result of this, I’ve now launched the brand new 100% Official Peter Goes To Partick website at petergoestopartick.com .The site contains photos of the band in its many forms, from the early days of Street Survivors and the original line-up including Gooshy, Stevie Murray and Kenny ‘Mad Dog’ McElroy right through to the final line-up of Gooshy, Stevie Doherty, Ricky Nicholson, Tommy McGroggan and Mick Burns.Hopefully the site will continue to grow, with photo and video contributions from the band themselves, the roadies and the fans.  If you’ve got anything you would like to contribute, email me at content@petergoestopartick.com .

Working on it…

September 16, 2007

From recent contact with a reader here, I’ve been inspired to do something about the serious lack of information on the web on the band Peter Goes To Partick and pull it all together in a website.  I have the basic framework of the site in development, but what I reallly need now is some content.  I finally got some software to start digitising the PGTP tracks from my Cameron House tape  and a contact with many more tapes (and possibly even some video), so it’s just a matter of finding the time to do it.  I’ve set myself a deadline of Christmas, but with lots to do in our new house, that may be a challenge (but we’ll see).

What I need now is for more PGTP people – fans, roadies, band members (especially band members) – to come forward and help me build up the archive of information.

Photos, stories, background info, where are they now… that kind of thing..

Let it begin.  :o)

Peter Goes To Partick

March 9, 2007

Urgh – I can’t believe it’s nearly a year since I last posted on here! Oh well, must try harder, I guess.

Anyway….

We recently hooked up a hi-fi that still had a tape deck on it, and I’m now happily listening to an old Recording of Peter Goes To Partick, from the Cameron House on 2nd Feb 1990! I’m going to try and digitise some of the tracks, but for now here’s a list of what’s on the tape (according to the long-ago scribbled cover notes).

Jump
Saturday Night (alright for fighting)
One Night Love Affair
Hip to be Square
When I see you Smile
Hold the Line
Better Days
Hysteria
Empty Rooms

Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Summer of 69
Here I Go Again
Shape of Things To Come
Friday On My Mind
Sweet Home Alabama

Rosalie/Cowgirl’s Song
When I see You Smile

Will post more about this recording later (lunch break is over).

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!

March 12, 2006

We have snow! And not just a light drizzle as in recent years, but a whole foot or more of it. Everything looks so pretty so we ventured out with the camera. We finally got photos of our new cars – just not the nice-sunny-day-with-shiny-looking-cars picture we were expecting.

Save… everything

January 26, 2006

A cautionary word offered from my painful experience…. If Excel asks if you’d like to save changes on your spreadsheet before you close it… STOP…. look at your file name and make sure it’s not the file you’ve just spent hours entering your new buget figures into before you say no!

This was my Thursday afternoon. :(

Plumbing Woes

January 16, 2006

In the week since the last post, I have been up to my eyes in plumbing problems. Who would ever be a home-owner, eh? Drainage problems that we thought were resolved back in September last year resurfaced (quite literally), resulting in our nice newly-laid floor in the dining room being pulled up so the plumbers could investigate. Turns out it’s our neighbour’s blockage, so now we have a whole new chapter in the saga ahead of us and I don’t see this going away any time soon.

In other plumbing news (!) we finally attempted to connect up our water filter tap. We had one in our old flat and I was loathe to live without it but didn’t want to leave a hole in the sink unit, so we left it behind. I was chuffed to find the same NSA filter on Ebay and bought it shortly after we moved into the house in February. I located a nice looking tap to go with it (again, an internet purchase) and then it sat in the kitchen waiting for fitting. A friend came by this weekend and made the first attempt, but fell foul of the conversion between US (Imperial) and UK (metric) plumbing fitment sizes. We thought we had anticipated this and arranged for a US connector to be sent from family in the US a month ago, but we didn’t foresee the problems at the tap end of the arrangement. So, now we have a tap in place and a filter in place but they’re not connected, so our water is still a murky white colour from the main tap. :(

Plumbing aside, we had a very productive weekend – 25 of our 85 boxes were finally unpacked, which is the biggest progress we’ve made so far. Mostly book collections and Art/Crafts materials; things we’ve had to live without for the last year and a half. We have way too much stuff so a lot will go to Ebay or Bookcrossing (which I may already have mentioned). No idea where the contents of the other 60 boxes are going, but with guests expected in March, we’ll find out soon enough!

Celebrity Big Brother

January 9, 2006

Despite resolving not to get sucked into it after the opening night, we’re still tuning in to Celebrity Big Brother. The task on Sunday night was for the housemates to sort themselves into order of how famous they are. They had two minutes to decide and arrange themselves and this is the order they chose:

Michael Barrymore
Dennis Rodman
Pete Burns
George Galloway
Traci Bingham
Rula Lenska
Jodie Marsh
Faria Alam
Chantelle
Preston (from Ordinary Boys)
Maggot (from Goldie Looking Chain)

The inclusion of Chantelle (the only non-celebrity in the house) at number 9 won her the right to stay in the house, since she had successfully convinced the housemates that she was more famous than Preston and Maggot. After the party had died down the housemates were discussing who they thought was actually more famous. This got me thinking, so i decided to use Google to see who had the most search results and below is the outcome:
“George Galloway” 1,180,000
“Dennis Rodman” 872,000
“Traci Bingham” 647,000
“Jodie Marsh” 357,000
“Michael Barrymore” 116,000
“Rula Lenska” 95,900
“Chantelle” + “Big Brother” 60,500
“Pete Burns” 56,600
“Faria Alam” 43,000
“Preston” + “ordinary boys” 22,400
“Maggot” + “Goldie Looking Chain” 1,130

(The “quote” marks are to make sure that results aren’t skewed by including other instances of the same surname (like Barrymore which, without the quotes, gives 4.25 Million results because it obviously includes Drew, John, etc)

I know it’s not a very scientific way of measuring celebrity status but it was fun to do!

Glasgow’s Miles Better… it’s official

January 9, 2006

The Evening Times reports today that Glasgow is the ONLY European city to make the Frommer’s Travel Guide List of The World’s Top 10 Must See Places. I knew there was a reason I loved this city.
